Exact knowledge of tumor etiology is required to design models for preclinical testing and personalization of cancer therapies. However, tissue and developmental stage of origin remain an enigma for many childhood cancers, severely hampering progress in pediatric cancer research and treatment.
Funded by an international organization, St. Anna Children´s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI), has joined forces with the Medical University of Vienna (MUW) and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) to track the origins of pediatric bone sarcomas using developmental and trans-species genomics. The interdisciplinary consortium is located in Vienna, the world’s most livable city and one of Europe’s most important places for biomedical research and life sciences.
We are looking for computational biologists at post-doctoral level who want to contribute to solving one of the most mysterious puzzles in pediatric oncology by employing their skills in single-cell analysis at the interface of developmental and cancer biology.
As a postdoc, you will
· Join a cooperative team embedded in a strong, well-funded consortium. We are dedicated to support your personal and professional development
· Be the computational mastermind of the consortium. Your work will critically shape this project, with plenty of room to bring in and develop your own ideas
· Analyze lots of functional genomics data (primarily single-cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq) using established workflows and your own algorithms
· Interpret, present, and discuss your results frequently with other consortium members, at local meetings, and at international conferences
· Write and review papers, apply for fellowships and grants, contribute to the supervision of junior group members
· PhD in a relevant subject (bioinformatics, genomics, molecular biology, cancer, etc.)
· At least one first-author publication in a reputable journal
· Good programming skills (R or Python); solid understanding of statistics
· Extensive experience with *-omics data analysis RNA-seq, ATAC-seq). Experience with single-cell analyses highly desirable
· Good knowledge of molecular biology and genomics. Experience in cancer or developmental biology is a plus
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (German not required)

You will join the Developmental Cancer Genomics Group at CCRI. The focus of the group is on understanding developmental processes in cancer biology by employing an integrative approach that combines developmental biology with functional genomics, data analytics, and mathematics.
