PRIMARY DETAIL

  • Salary Package: From $109,553$121,901 (HEW Level 8), plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
  • Appointment Type: Full time, continuing role.
  • Location: 18 Wally's Walk, Macquarie University, Wallumattagal campus at North Ryde.

This role reports to Manager, Financial Control.

About You

You are client focused and have well-developed self-management skills. You are experienced to analyse large complex data sets and presenting relevant information to senior management. You demonstrate the ability to build trust and manage relationships with multiple key stakeholders. You are confident to identify, suggest, and lead the implementation of process improvement measures.

About Us


Group Finance is responsible for providing a broad range of financial services to support the University's core mission of teaching and research.

The University Finance function is organised into the following areas:

  • Financial Control
  • provides technical accounting, internal controls and compliance advisory for business units across the University Group. Leads the External Financial Reporting process for the University Group. Responsible for the University Group Financial Risk Management Framework.
  • Financial Operations, Treasury and Tax provides general accounting activities, including monthend and yearend financial closure of businesses across the University. The team will have full responsibility for monthend close activities and will be responsible for the primary review of University Groupwide results. Provides technical treasury and taxation advice and services for the University Group.
  • Financial Performance and Business Partnering provides planning, reporting, analysis, and business partnering activities for business units across the University Group.

Positions will be organised across 2 teams:

  • Financial Planning and Analysis full responsibility for the budgeting and forecasting processes, and financial reporting of all business units across the University Group. The team will also work closely with Finance Business Partners to provide analysis and insights for stakeholders.
  • Finance Business Partners full responsibility for providing a concise suite of high impact, value added services to Executive Group members and their teams. This will include providing critical analysis and insight, scenario modelling and costbenefit analyses, commercial evaluation, and strategic financial advice. This team will include a specialist business partnering for MQ Health Finance role with specific responsibilities to the MQ Health CEO and COO.
  • Finance Shared Services* provides efficient transactional finance services to the University Group, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Purchasing.

To Apply

  • Degree in accounting, finance or related fields of study with CA/CPA qualified with several years of relevant postqualification experience in a large and complex organisation.
  • Experience in a similar role within a large, complex organization with complex accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Significant experience conducting compliance programs to improve financial accounting and controls processes and procedures.
  • Significant experience providing specialized financial accounting advice to a senior audience.
  • Indepth experience in evaluating new accounting standards, assessing impacts and supporting the system, process and people change programs required to ensure compliance in a large, complex organization
  • Significant experience in the preparation of complex group audited financial statements.
  • Significant experience in preparing material for external audits, and liaising with external auditors, for a large and complex organization with multiple reporting entities.
  • Demonstrated ability in building and managing relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of core financial functions, frameworks, models and approaches
Highly desirable

  • Prior experience as a 'Big 4' external auditor or accounting advisory specialist.
  • Working with a range of financial databases and systems.
  • Use of digital compliance reporting tools
