Beschreibung

The Office for Outer Space Affairs OOSA-Space Applications Section internship is for two (2) months with an opportunity for extension up to a total of six (6) months, pending on the needs of the office and the availability of the intern.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.


Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned or remotely.


Responsibilities:

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background as well as the internship period.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Online research on the use of space technologies for water resource management (actors, projects, technologies);
  • Working with remote sensing data and creating maps to be published on the portal or in articles;
  • Data collection and aggregation;
  • Contributing to or writing short articles (science and popular science) on the use of space technologies for water resource management or hydrology;
  • Preparation of posts and outreach material;
  • Adding and editing content to the Space4Water Portal (web content editing);
  • Perform other tasks as necessary.

The United Nations Core Competencies include:

  • Planning and organizing: Develops clear goals, identifies priority activities and assignments and monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary.
  • Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.
Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
a)

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION)
c) Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
d) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

  • Graduation Date (When will you graduate or when did you graduate from the programme?)
  • Past research, if in the area of space technologies or water (resource) management.
  • Past experience with remote sensing and GIS (if any)
