We are a leading research organisation in the area wood and wood-related renewable resources in Europe.

Our core competences are materials research and process technology along the complete value chain - from raw material to finished products.

We develop methods and basics and perform applied research on the economy-science interface, in order to enable resource-efficient management in the circular bioeconomy.

Our team, Sustainable Innovation and Impact Assessment is looking for a:

Junior Researcher (30h-40h) for a Dissertation (PhD) at BOKU or KFU:

About us:

We conduct research at the interface of technology and economy in order to provide customized information to shape innovation processes and support our company partners on issues of the market.

The societal perceptions and requirements considering the forest based economic sector have changed. Sustainable wood supply is fundamental for wood industry. At the same time the assessment of sustainability is a multifaceted challenge.

In addition to the three pillars of sustaina-bility we also need to take into account the ongoing consensus building processes on various topics and with different stakeholder groups.

Different sustainability assessment methods are needed on different levels and different stakeholder groups have different and evolving conceptualizations of sustainability.

In a cooperative research project with an industry partner we are looking for a junior researcher to review relevant guidances for biodiversity assessment of (e.g.

the Science based targets for nature /SBTN) and other related activities (initiatives including regulation like EU-PEF, methods, indicators,...) to assess the applicability for biodiversity strategies of Lenzing AG.

Further the task is to map and analyze relevant biodiversity assessment methodologies and how they align to the LCA approach as well as observe how the activities are framed and which societal sustainability needs are addressed.

Hot-spots of sustainable wood procurement considering biodiversity and business risks as well as mitigation measures for the têxtile value chain with a focus on wood procurement, biore-finery and fiber manufacturing are to be identified.

With this background a case study according to selected biodiversity assessment methods is envisaged.
