What are the benefits of using Matomo Analytics instead of Google Analytics?

Pimcore now provides an integration of Matomo (formerly known as Piwik). This Google Analytics alternative is the leading open source web analytics software. It is used on more than 1 million websites in 200 countries.

Matomo and Pimcore are a great fit. Only in close collaboration with Matomo a core integration of this great tool could be achieved. Thank's to the Matomo team for all your help and support! This tight integration makes all the new reporting features on our roadmap possible. We must admit that we are quite proud that Pimcore is currently the only content and user experience management system with a Matomo core integration.

A major benefit of using Matomo instead of Google Analytics is that it gives enterprises 100% data ownership & privacy protection of any analytical data collected, stored and processed. All data is physically stored on your own servers. New data laws like GDPR and ePrivacy are coming up soon in the EU and affecting companies worldwide. Complying with these regulations can be quite complicated. Having ownership of all data ensures that organizations can act more swiftly. Thus they can comply better and faster with any new regulation. They own and control all data they collect and store.

Features

The integration of Matomo can be set up in the graphical user interface of Pimcore. Admins can retrieve reports by displaying Matomo dashboards and widgets in Pimcore. Reports can also be displayed by using the native Pimcore reporting widgets. Next, we will integrate the Pimcore behavioral targeting engine with Matomo. This will enable sophisticated website personalization features. All reporting features of Pimcore will be extended, based on Matomo. In short: We are going all-in and will use Matomo for all analytics and reporting extensions for the "Experience Cloud" roadmap 2018.
