    Salzburg Global Seminar is an independent non-profit organization founded in 1947 with a mission to challenge current and future leaders to shape a better world.

    About the job
    We are seeking a dynamic and outcome-focused Director of Communications to lead our communications and brand-building efforts. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in amplifying our global impact by elevating our programs and activities, engaging key audiences, and fostering deeper connections with our community of donors and Fellows.

    We are in the process of creating a new brand identity as well as developing a new website and a significant part of your role will be to capitalize on these initiatives to present a vibrant and diverse organization to our key audiences. Reporting to the Managing Director, Public Affairs, and managing a small team of communications specialists, this exciting role will be based at Schloss Leopoldskron, home of Salzburg Global Seminar, in Salzburg, Austria.

    Responsibilities Include

    Content Creation and Management:

    • Hands-on oversight of the creation and publication of high-quality online content including articles, interviews, and other materials.
    • Ensure the quality and veracity of all content and outputs, including more purpose-driven communications activities.

    Digital Presence and Engagement:

    • Boost digital presence by optimizing our website, leveraging social media platforms strategically, and utilizing data-driven insights to improve online engagement.
    • Raise the profile of Salzburg Global Fellows, online and in the international media.
    • Monitor and analyze communications performance using relevant metrics and adapt strategies based on insights.

    Program Impact and Brand Awareness:

    • Increase program impact by leveraging the ideas and insights generated by our five program areas to maximize impact for Salzburg Global, our donors and supporters.
    • Strengthen brand awareness by fostering a consistent brand identity across all communications channels to raise global awareness of our mission and impact.
    • Effectively communicate Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron managing the promotion of the hotel as a commercial entity and home of Salzburg Global.

    Relationship Cultivation and Management:

    • Manage external media and other partnerships while developing relationships with external service providers.
    • Represent Salzburg Global in community relations and foster positive relationships with stakeholders in Salzburg.

    Leadership and Collaboration:

    • Manage a small communications department, as well as our network of consultants and collaborate effectively with internal teams across programs and departments.
    • Work with colleagues to develop targeted communication campaigns to promote our programs and activities to our key audiences.


    Compensation

    • EUR 3750 per month before tax and commensurate with experience, paid 14 times per year.
    • A modest relocation package will be offered for candidates outside of Salzburg.
    • Standard Austrian benefits include health insurance, pension contributions, sick pay, and 25 days of annual leave.
    • Salzburg Global-specific perks include free daily staff lunch, annual staff social events, special rates for Schloss Leopoldskron, and discounts to local tourism attractions.


    Qualifications

    • At least 5 years of professional experience, in strategic communications, journalism, or another relevant field.
    • Demonstrated expertise in digital communication channels, including social media platforms, website management, and content marketing.
    • Strong understanding of current trends and best practices in communications.
    • Experience in managing budgets and allocating resources effectively.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across international, diverse teams with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Passion for Salzburg Global Seminar's mission, international news and policy agenda, and a commitment to contributing to global dialogue and problem-solving.
    • Excellent spoken and written English, with German language skills an advantage
    • Willingness to work in-person in Salzburg a minimum of 2 days per week, while having the flexibility to work remotely for the balance.
    • Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and knowledge of email marketing platforms (Mailchimp) and CMS (TYPO3) preferred.
    • Experience in organizing and executing public relations events, such as press conferences, media briefings, and stakeholder engagements an advantage.
